Hey, did we miss something? I thought Susan mentioned her mom as if she were
alive one or two seasons ago. When did her mom die and why haven't we heard of
it?

We never found out what happened to her parents when Susan returned to the
show. We knew what happened to Cloie. Jeez, Susie Q, get custody of your neice
already, she is never getting better. The talk about her mom dying was brand
new.

The talk about her mom dying was brand
new.
But she was consistent with her father's job description.

It also struck me that if Cookie had died "a couple of years ago" it would
probably have been shortly before Susan moved back to Chicago (if it had been
AFTER she moved back, there would have been some mention, surely) ... so,
wouldn't she have come back for the funeral? (They weren't close, but neither
were they totally estranged.) Yet when she moved back, it was pretty obvious
that she hadn't seen Mark etc. since she moved to Arizona!

Better to have left Cookie alive, I think...

We don't know that. They talked about their fathers, but didn't say a word one
way or another about their mothers. So Cookie could have already been dead at
that point.

Yup, you're right. *However*, in IBHFC, while talking at their lockers
about their respective families, Susan told Carter outright that "Cookie and
Henry aren't divorced, but they ought to be", signalling Cookie *was* still
alive as late as S8. It's just poor writing/telling of details. Not the
first (or last) time for that!

In that season's Christmas eppy, "I'll be Home for Christmas", Carter tells
Susan that his parents are getting divorced. Susan asks if he's ever met
her parents, they should've gotten divorced years ago. Carter says he's met
Cookie (when Baby Susie was born, I think). Anyway, that was less than 2
years ago and both spoke as though Cookie were still around though it wasn't
specifically stated as such.

Hey. Susan's mother dies off screen and we're supposed to believe it
happened? I'm offended.

No grief or guilt. If Abby's mother were to die we would be forced to hear
ad nauseum about how it inconvenienced Abby, with LOTS of eye rolling.

Correction if only "Abby" would die off screen! (Sorry. but it was too good
a chance!) Apologies for sending the blank post...............and to
Sharon.......yeah. if Susan's Mom died off screen -- I don't think we should
accept this.....I mean, TPTB should not give us two years of backstory off
screen! That is a bunch of bull! ;-)

When she said that I was wondering myself "when did that happen?" I remember
her from Susan talking to them about helping care for little Suzie and she
was still pretty young. I wonder why they decided to say she had died. But
the dad's description was the same.
