ER was nearly cancelled a few years back...

due to low ratings. I remember reading that they were not sure if the
show would make it. It was a few years back. And then suddenly the
ratings improved enough to keep it. Though it never again reached the
numbers it had in the beginning.Sadly I do not think Jon Wells is
going to have another hit with Southland. While it may be a decent
show, though it is hard to judge since I have not yet seen it, I doubt
it will reach the popularity that ER did. NBC has a bad habit of
cancelling shows that people like. And I am not talking about ER since
it had a great run. But other shows like Ed were great and then they
axed it. ER has not had many great shows lately and now that ER is
gone I have no reason to watch NBC. Sad as it used to be one of my
favorite networks. Friends was another favorite but that show lasted 3
years too long and Rachel and Ross broke up so much that by the time
they reunited in the finale I could have cared less. ER will be
missed. I hope they do a reunion show someday but sadly I am not sure
they will. Friends said they would do one and they never have and now
nobody would care if they did.

Well, not exactly. It wasn't going to be a cancellation in the true
sense of the word, but a planned ending, much like this year's.

Yes, the ratings did improve, so it was a joint decision to continue
for another year.
