<NBC applying "Lipstick" in "ER" space

Thu Nov 29, 2007 3:15pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In a strike-related scheduling
move, NBC will launch midseason comedy-drama "Lipstick Jungle" in
"ER's" Thursday 10 p.m. slot.

"Lipstick," starring Brooke Shields, Kim Raver and Lindsay Price as a
trio of successful New York women, will premiere February 7, after
"ER" runs out of the original episodes stockpiled before the writers'
strike.

"Lipstick," based on Candace Bushnell's best-seller, is the first
series to air in "ER's" time slot since the medical drama's launch in
1994.

The scheduling decision was influenced by the strike, but NBC has been
mulling splitting the Thursday 10 p.m. time period with another show
to avoid "ER" repeats, which -- as is the case with most serialized
dramas -- have not performed well. Last year, the network planned to
launch midseason drama "The Black Donnellys" in the time slot in
January 2007, but scrapped the plan when "ER" came out the gate
strong.

So far, Fox is the only network to announce a comprehensive
contingency midseason schedule in case the writers' strike continues
into next year.>

What will happen if Lipstick pulls down better numbers than ER?

Maybe we ER fans will be put out of our misery and the show will be
consigned to oblivion. At this point, I'd think a test pattern could
generate better numbers than ER. It's certainly better written and directed
than ER.

I was in NYC over the holiday with #1 son who ran a race. For fun we went on
the NBC studio tour at Rock Plaza. At the beginning you get to see a little
movie compiling the entire history of NBC from radio to tv to color tv to
the present. They interjected every so often with their most successful
shows, they named them all.... except ER. Not one mention or hint of it.
With the exception of the display down in the store where they sell cheap ER
scrubs, it's almost as though they were avoiding it. Hmm.

Maybe because ER is from Warner Bros. and the decree has come
down from above that NBC should concentrate on shows that come
from Universal?

(GE owns Universal who in turn owns NBC.)

Except that the film was all over Friends and even mentioned Third watch,
both WB produced. I'm sure some others they gushed over were WB as well -
I'm just too lazy to look.

Considering the depths to which it has sunk, can you blame NBC for trying to
ignore it?

I don't get it. A complete lack of writing talent never stopped E.R.

It's actually not the first show to be aired in ER's time slot--in
early 1997, the short-lived "Prince Street" was aired there, then "Law
and Order".

"Law and /what/"?!?! Never heard of it. One of those flash-in-the-pan
deals, huh?

The name Lindsay Price sounded familiar to me, so I IMDB'd her. She
played Janet Sosna (Steve Sanders' wife) on BH 90210's later years.
Also, FTR, Kim Raver played paramedic Kim Zambrano (Zambrano partnered
with Alex Taylor, played by Amy Carlson, for a long time) on THIRD
WATCH, and was also on '24' for a while.

After watching the train wreck last night i'm hoping the writers
strike lasts for something like five years and that by the
time the strike is settled new shows return and nobody notices.

I won't even begin to list all the problems I have lsst nights
episode.

Of course this replacement show sounds a hundred times
worse than ER. (Oh my God, worse than ER, that means the
show is going to be really really really bad.)

...Well, I guess *anything* is better than ER now! The writing is
horrible, not to mention the clichéd storyline.
