I'm watching Life After Death and there is this girl in the ER
breathing into this thing with smoke coming out of it.

Please tell me it isn't a bong.

What is it?

It's a nebulizer that administers medication into the lungs in mist form.
The air comes from a compressed air source (a small unit) that aerosolizes
liquid medication which is then breathed in by the patient. Commonly used by
asthmatics, CF patients and those with lung disease. My son had chronic
croup until age 5 and we went every where with his nebulizer. My friend with
CF has always had to deal with one.
