A miracle *could* happen, right? He could be the first to have his brain

Then the replacement ambulance could hit Abby when she walks outside. And

As a woman I have to say i detest Abby as a charactcer.

The super woman thing doesn't fly with me, the double standard
for her and others makes my blood boil, and the "woe is me"
act by Abby is wearing thin now.

I was so hoping her character would be killed off.

Women deserve a better role model.....and Abby ani't it.

That about sums it up. It's the fact that the show seems to want us to
think Abby is some sort of admirable, heroic figure and she is constantly
excused for treating her coworkers, friends and family like jerks that makes
her so intolerable to me. In real life, she wouldn't be some paragon of
medicine, the bestest doctor ever. Her looks wouldn't be constantly praised
by every man from 8 to 80 who crosses her path. Her friends and family
would've long ago gotten sick of her constant criticism and complaints and
her selfishness. The character is far from realistic in that she is
constantly rewarded for bad behavior and never faces the consequences of her
actions. In real life, she'd have no friends, no job and no husband or
child at this point.

In two eppies, Luka and Abby leave the show to move to Boston where Abby is
going to work in the ER at Mass General, the flagship hospital for Harvard
Medical School. Because, of course, Mass General is so crummy that no one
wants to work there and they're forced to hire a recent graduate of a
residency who is at least a decade older than her peers, fresh out of rehab
with a history of working while intoxicated and whose personal life is a
trainwreck. Yup, very realistic.

Y'know, I LIKED her and Carter together, mostly because I TRULY feel
that John made her a better person and didn't put up with all of her
bullshit. It was a HUGE mistake, IMNSHO, not to let Carby ride off into
the sunset together.

That said, I do understand that there's a legion of fans out there who
feel that Carter is WAY too good for Abby, and I kindasorta see your
point, but I still feel that Carter made Abby a better person at any
rate.

I liked Abby from the start. OK, I'd watch Maura Tierney do almost
anything. She's one of my favourite actors, and the reason I started
watching the show. The character has been stretched too far in the
desperate hunt for ever more sensational plots and it's damaged the
show. If anything that more than ever cause the show to be on the
wrong side of the shark after jumping back and forth a few times.
I now have no cable nor satellite service and there is no TV in the
house! I won't miss the last season, except for Abby.

I haven't posted about Abby in eons. Perhaps it's another Sharon you're
thinking of.

But I do detest her - or, more so, the writers who insist on making her a

My guess is she has David Duchoveney disease......
a burning desire to do movies.

She'll follow in the footsteps of SMG who went from a hit show
like Buffy to a series of bad movies that will never
be considered for an oscar.

Actors like steady work but detest doing the same role for too
many years.

Also she is getting up there in age. Hollywood detests woemn
who get old, so if she wants to be successful in other roles she
needs to do it soon before she gets older.

MT is already well past her 'sell by' date as a leading lady in the movies.
There are far too many established film actresses her age or younger who
would be competing with her for the few parts out there for leading ladies
in their 40's. At best, she'll get some supporting roles, as she did while
starring on ER.

Why would MT be 'fed up'? She's always had a front burner storyline
featuring Abby'sordid personal life, she had a major patient storyline in
nearly every episode and she played major supporting roles in the other
character's storylines because Abby was the one that every one turned to,
even when it made no sense. Remember when Kerry asked her to be guardian
for her son, when Abby was the one who was with her when she miscarried?
When Abby was front and center when Gallant died? When Abby was prominent
in Carter's addiction storyline?
MT has been the golden girl on this show, the lead actress, with far more
screentime than anyone other than maybe AE or NW back in the day. No way
she had any reason to complain about her treatment on this show.

Actually, no. TPTB decided the character was played out and MT was one of
their priciest actors; so they decided to cut her loose and improve the
bottom line. Unlike MP, there've been no reports that MT asked to be
written out of the show.

If there is no evidence that she wanted to go, I have yet to see any
evidence that the show runners decided to cut her loose because she's
too expensive - I think that it probably just your opinion rather than
being based on "evidence", isn;t it? They could have released her at
the end of S14 if they wanted rid instead of having her around for
three episodes this season. It seems a bit late to be improving the
bottom line at this stage of the game.

Actually, Mrs. E, as you know, ER has done it's filming schedule differently
than the other shows on TV in that they always shoot the first couple eppies
of the next season at the end of the last. So, the first few eppies last
season were actually filmed during the preceding season's contract. Each
actor is contracted for X number of episodes a season and I believe that MT
was written out at the end of her current contract which expired with the
end of filming last season and included the first few eppies of this year.
It's possible they paid her a guest star fee for the third eppy since her
contract is up, but the first two were part of her last contract for sure.
Since she was no longer under contract to the show, and there were
absolutely no rumors that she had been offered a new contract and turned it
down (which is what happened when NW, ELS and AE decided to leave), I think
it's a pretty safe bet it was TPTB who decided that Abby was expendable.

We all know she was the highest paid actress on the show, that's not a
secret. TPTB have cast a bunch of unknowns to play interns this season to
fill out the storylines. Once again, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to
figure out that TPTB decided that Abby's value to the series was less than
MT was making playing her. If they'd wanted to keep her, they would've done
some maneuvering to woo her, as they did with other main cast members they
wanted to keep who were thinking of leaving. And they would've taken the
money they'd offered to her and given it to a big name.

And you know all the details of contract negotiations how? And why
bother with a guest star slot at all - they could have had her leave
at the same time as Goran if they'd wanted to, made last season's

The details of the negotiations to try to get AE, NW, and JM to stay with
the show were all over the media, one doesn't need insider status to know
about it. In contrast, not a word has been heard about any similar offers
to MT. In addition, she certainly issued no statements indicating it was
her choice to leave as the others did. Granted, the evidence is
circumstantial, but there's plenty of it.

As for why Crabs didn't leave with GV, well, she had a contract after all,
why shouldn't TPTB get their money's worth considering the substantial
salary she is paid? GV was contracted and paid as a guest star last season,
he was not regular cast, but MT was. Standard TV contracts indicate a
number of episodes per season. Since the first two eppies of last season
were already in the can before last seasons' filming began, MT was
contractually obligated to be available for two more eppies, which happen to
be airing this season, I forgot that she is apparently not in the second
eppy this season, so she worked exactly to the end of her current contract
and not one day further. And, if MT is such a hot commodity and Abby so
valuable to the show, why didn't TPTB fork over a some cash so GV could've
appeared with her as Abby left the building? Those eppies were filmed right
after his last guest appearance, surely he was available for a day or two
more to film a couple of farewell scenes with the Princess.

For that matter, if MT's such a huge asset, why isn't there any indication
that she will be coming back for the finale? They're raising Mark from the
dead so AE can appear, why isn't Abby visiting Chicago for the finale if
she's so important? Even Laura Innes and Paul McCrane are getting guest
appearances later in the season, but not Abby the magnificent. TPTB have
given a bunch of interviews about cast members they want to have around for
the big finish, not a word about MT in any of them. I think they realize
she doesn't have any story left to tell and that the emphasis on her and her
miserable self the past couple seasons dragged the show down.

Seems to me there's a whole lot of circumstantial evidence that TPTB are
the ones who decided that Abby's story was played out. Even GV announced it
was his choice to leave the show, why wouldn't MT be given a chance to do
the same unless it wasn't true? I never said I had inside knowledge, just
presented the facts that we do have and compared them to others on the same
show.

Don't worry, Abby goes out a star. MT is going to be onscreen chewing the
scenery for most of her episode. She gets the comic patient storyline, she
gets the personal storyline, then, as her last act in the ER, she talks
someone out of jumping off the roof; going so far as to climb up on the
ledge with him to do it. I guess now that TPTB have finished her
canonization, there's nothing left to do with her. Of course, that didn't
stop them when she was played out years ago, but that's another post.

I don't pretend to have any knowledge at all
about their opinion of her, but I'm well acquainted with yours
Yeah, Mrs. E, I've got your number, too.

It's 10:42pm. They're taking Pratt up to the OR to harvest his organs for
donation. But there's still time for hope.
A miracle *could* happen, right? He could be the first to have his brain
regenerate in minutes. He could wake up. He could.
Then the replacement ambulance could hit Abby when she walks outside. And
grind the tires over her body. Back and forth.....
Idea! In her final act of super-heroinism, she makes a deal with a
supernatural being: her life for Pratt's! The rest of the season deals
with him readjusting to his return from the dead, including the
strange craving he develops (around episode 5) for the touch of Luka's
lips upon his own.

And Abby doesn't really die. She turns up in later episodes as one of
the supernatural beings and continues to help the ER characters using
her newly learnt powers. ;-)
