George Clooney Called Back to the ER?
Nov. 6, 2008, 11:22 AM EST
http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx/?news=338364&GT1=28103
Entertainment Tonight

There's talk again of George Clooney and other former cast members returning
to "ER" as the show gears up for its final season on NBC.

Clooney will return to the popular medical drama along with Noah Wyle and
Eriq La Salle, Wyle tells TV Guide senior editor Will Keck.

"From what I heard, George said, 'absolutely,' schedule permitting," Wyle
says of Clooney's reported return. As for La Salle, he will direct an "ER"
episode this month, and then reunite with Wyle on screen as Dr. Peter Benton
for a storyline shooting this winter to air next spring, TV Guide reports.

Wyle reveals more of the storyline: "As a result of [Carter's] once
near-fatal stabbing [the same incident that killed off Kellie Martin's Dr.
Lucy Knight in 2000], which led to my subsequent drug addiction, I come back
from Africa requiring additional medical treatment for my one remaining
kidney. I'm embarrassed to get treatment at County General, so I go up to
Northwestern to get my dialysis up there, and that's where Dr. Benton spies
my name on a patient list and comes to pay me a visit."

It is for people who can't/don't filter by subject. If they don't want to
read the text of the article, the spoiler space provides them an out.

It's the way we've done that here for many years.

It is spoiled by simply reading the title, so having space in the message
becomes irrelevant. It would have been better to put the titles as simply:

SPOILER called back to ER?

and leave out the name.

Actually, it's not spoiled by reading the title since the title doesn't say
that GC is definitely returning and because it ends with a question mark,
indicating that there is some doubt. The title is speculative at best and
speculation is not a spoiler. Also, the article contains a lot of
information about other former cast members and their future plans in
regards to the show, none of which is spoiled by the title.

Also, I don't know who you are, you're apparently a newbie. Vetgirl has
been posting here for the better part of a decade; I think she's well aware
of the rules for this group. Spoiler rules from other groups are irrelevant
here.

I'm definitely not a newbie - I've been around Usenet for over a decade. I'm
just stuck using a different computer to my normal one and I can't go
changing the settings on someone else's machine.

It's VERY simple: a spoiler is anything that spoils a yet-to-be-aired
episode, and characters returning (or not returning) is definitely in that
category ... with or without question marks.

Usenet does not have a universal definition for spoilers, no matter how hard
you pretend it does. While you might have been around usenet for a while,
you haven't been here. Each group has their own protocols. In addition,
you need to read the title of this thread a little closer, it doesn't give
anything away; it is completely speculative, hence, the question mark.
Reading comprehension is fundamental.

It's not a freaking spoiler if it's about something that is up in the air,
and we've all known that they wanted to get as many originals back for this
season as could make time. THe spoiler was not the topic, it was the info
on Carter's storyline. Get a clue.

No, because the article itself does not confirm that he is returning. It
actually says that it has yet to be determined. Anyone who reads the header
and thinks that it means GC is returning to the show is not spoiled, they're

No, let me see if I can find small enough words for you to understand...

It referenced his POSSIBLE return. Possible means may happen, may not
happen, it's unknown at this time if he will or not. It means there was no

The spoiler had to do with Carter's story line, not with George returning,
since it's pretty clear from the title and the article that it's not a done

They removed a kidney after the stabbing?? I don't remember that. I
remember that there was damage to one of his kidneys, but I don't
remember it being bad enough to warrant its removal.

Nope, they saved his kidney. Remember Anspaugh saying he didn't want to
have to be the one to tell Carter they'd removed it. However, the blood
supply to it was severely damaged which is why they were considering
removing it in the first place, so it's not out of the question that it
might have been too damaged to function properly afterwards, meaning Carter
only had one functional kidney which has now failed.

It would be nice to think the writing team would do a little research and
make sure they write it properly for us ER geeks, but it's probably too much
to hope for. Sounds like NW doesn't remember the details of the original
story.

Couple things. Could be NW is jumping ahead in describing the storyline and
leaving out that they will mention that over time or due to illness the left
kidney has failed and he is left with his right which is also failing due to
some Africa borne disease. Second. On ET last night, they mentioned the
article but said that GC claims he knows nothing about it.
