Post by sharonWhen some of the most devoted viewers of a long running program don't have
anything to say about it anymore, it's time to pack it in. The fact that
NBC ordered 3 more episodes for this season says a lot more about the
overall qualitty of NBC's schedule and ER's competition than it does about
the show.
For some time now, I've had a real love/hate, or perhaps hate/love would be
more appropriate, thing going with NBC. As the original hater of reality
shows, I think theirs are the most repulsive (I only know about them because
of the endless slimy previews and bits of endings I get while waiting for a
10 pm drama to start).
But I do really enjoy their "real" reality shows. The beauty of Law and
Order and ER is that you can imagine these scenes actually playing out in
real life. And unlike ER, Law and Order IMO is having a very good year even
after two decades on the air. Sisto and Anderson are two guys you can
believe as cops, while Linus Roache is something of a driven prick,
constantly at odds with his ADA and his boss. And of course, playing on the
reality theme, the plots are plucked from the headlines.
But now, in possibly the strangest move ever, NBC is packing in its best
(only?) good thing, these 10 pm dramas, in favor of a washed-up hack (Leno)
and his frivolous show-biz interviews. What if that fails, as it should?
Merge with CBS, the way XM did with Sirius? Now, at 10 pm on CBS/NBC,
CSI/Law and Order Philadelphia/Baltimore!
Then there's ER. Aside from Angela Bassett doing her star turns, there's not
much going on. I agree with the other poster about Alex Kingston. She gave
off a vibe of someone doing a porn shoot against her will. And when the
former total fuck-up (Archie) become the show's moral compass, it really is
time for the end.
After three extra episodes, of course.
