As someone who has had a number of MRIs please tell me the
whole MRI thing in tonights episode is not something that happens
often. After all an MRI is scary enough already.

You did. They forgot to switch tables and the table they brought into
the MRI room caused a magnetic thing and flew right into the MRI
machine.

The patient who had asked several times for more drugs was thrown
along with the table and was caught between the table and the MRI
machine said, "Can I get some more drugs now?"

Maybe...it was pretty funny

Hehheehe, just watched it, yep. As dismal as E.R. is these days, it
still does have it's occasional moment.

I've had a lot of MRIs over the years. I found absolutely nothing
funny about it.

I have had a few too. That's what cracked me up. It's the absurdity and how
they worked the annoying character up to it.

I've also had them so having gone thru all the prep beforehand to
prevent items from being pulled into the machine with you is what
makes it funny. If the director was trying to be serious and make a
point of the potential danger to the viewers he wouldn't have done a
camera pan-away and pan-back. Notice no mention of pens, belt
buckles, jewelry, etc that the doctors might have had on them.

There are protocols to keep magnetic materials well away from MRI
machines.

That said, there was an incident a few years ago where someone was
injured by a flying oxygen tank brought too close.

Happened back in July 2001. It was actually a 6 year old boy who got
killed when an oxygen tank the size of a fire extingisher flew into
the MRI machine he was in and crushed his skull.
