Discussion:
Anthony Edwards returning to "ER"

Look who ER dug up to celebrate its final season: Dr. Mark Greene, who
died of a brain tumor in Hawaii back in 2002. Original cast member
Anthony Edwards signed a deal Wednesday night to reprise his popular
character for the Nov. 13 episode of the long-running NBC drama.

Dearly departed Mark will not be spooking Linda Cardellini (of Scooby
Doo fame), but rather will be appearing in multiple flashback scenes
to give insight into the past of Angela Bassett's character.

In the episode, Bassett's Cate Banfield enters County General
Hospital's emergency room — but not in a doctor capacity. At her
bedside is Edwards, who collected numerous awards for playing one of
TV's all-time most compassionate docs.

Entitled "Heal Thyself," the episode is to shoot next week and was
written by ER executive producer David Zabel, who will also direct.
For its 15th and final season, the series hopes to bring back other
familiar vets for one last hurrah, including Noah Wyle, who will
return for four of the final episodes. — William Keck

I can't wait to see how they bring back Romano.

At least they aren't borrowing the Enterprise's transporter to
bring Greene back.

No, they just plan on whipping the hospital around the sun so fast they
travel back in time.

OK, lets get it correct, one last time:

Superman _himself_ flew backwards in time, it was by traveling so fast
that from his (and the viewer's) point of view that the Earth seemed
itself to reverse direction.

Now, you got me all fanboy-ish and everything.... <huff>, <huff>

This is actually the reason that Superman is always able to stop disasters
and bad guys just before the crutial moment.
He sits around the newsroom waiting to hear what has already happened.
Then, he flies there really fast so he can get there before it happens and
stop it. Basically, he is just a flim flam artist that hasn't revealed his
'cheat' to his adoring public.

Uh, the whipping the starship around the sun so fast they travel back
in time is from Star Trek: TOS, not Superman. It was the episode where
they brought an interceptor pilot on board.

They also did something similar in the hopeless Galactica 1980 series.

Not quite correct: Star Trek used there motive power and the mass of
the Sun but not to accelerate to stupendous speeds.

Do I _really_ need to drag out cites?

It would be really cool if they would bring Greene back as a flesh-

Hey, it could be an "ER"-"Fear Itself" crossover!!

Heck they could do a Fera Itself episode where all the doctors
leave except for Abbey who works lots of extra shifts while
being drunk as a skunk.

As long as she can avoid using the words "band" and "camp" in the same

We all know we're not the only people on the planet. But if someone
insists on trying to live in an information-free bubble as if THEY are
the only person on the planet, the first thing they *shouldn't* do is
voluntarily read a forum about TV information. No one is forcing you
or anyone else to read these forums. No one came to your house and
forced you or anyone else learn this information.

If you can seriously think that you wouldn't know about Anthony
Edwards' return to the show until he appeared on your screen, you're
way too naive to be reading this forum.

So have I. Is that any excuse for somebody to come waddling in here
and insist that providing spoiler space is, according to his tortured
reasoning, bad manners? That turns courtesy on its head.

The Edwards thing may well have been spoiled for that guy anyway, but
this jerk made sure that it was -- and that was his intent, of course.

I've alot of movies spoiled by people outside of the internet.
I'd point out many of the moves/shows that have been spoiled for me
in recent years have been on Faux News, on the 11pm news, or on
various talk shows. But not on the internet.

Aren't ALL movies ruined for you?

That's correct. PLEASE respect other's wishes ... you are not the only
person on the planet!!
At some point common sense needs to kick in here. Don't want to knwp
that Anthony Edwards is returning to ER? Then for Gosh sakes stay off
the internet, turn off the Tv, don't buy the paper, don't go
into the break room at work. We can put spoiler space in here
and you'll go into the break room at work or get on the train
in the morning and the person next to you will say excidedly "
Anthony Edwards is returning to Er."
I've alot of movies spoiled by people outside of the internet.
A movie cannot - I repeat, CANNOT - be spoiled by knowing how it turns out.

Some years back there was a movie that came out about the Titantic. You
know, the one that featured Kate Winslet's breasts. I went to see it
even though I knew that in the end the ship would sink and that most of
the passengers would be killed (although I think the movie producers
actually arranged for no loss of life by the cast and crew while they
were filming that particular movie). I still enjoyed the movie. Why?
Because my enjoyment of movies comes from seeing how the actors perform,
how well the script is written, how the cinematography is done, etc.
etc. The story itself is rather trivial to a movie and solely exists to
hang everything else on. I've probably seen a couple thousand movies in
my lifetime and have never had a movie spoiled by knowing how it turns out.

By the reasoning of those that talk about a show being "spoiled", the
Broadway Show "Phantom of the Opera" should have closed down after one
performance because after that everyone knew exactly how it ended. And
yet there are people like me who have seen the show more then five
times. Why? Because there are more important things going on then just
the plot.

So in the end it is difficult to "respect" those who want to complain
about details being posted. If those details can "spoil" the show then
there is something seriously wrong about the mental condition and
maturity of such people.

Sure it can. Faxu News so nicely spoiled Million Dollar Baby by
spilling the beans on how it ends. I really appreciated that.

Don't want to be spoiled about that TV show/movie? Then turn off the
tv/radio/put down the newspaper/don't go to the store/don't go to the
dount shop/etc. Stay home and read a book.

<snip>
Spoiler space would have been nice for those who didn't want to know.
Although cross-posting it through wrestling newsgroups as well marks
you as an idiot anyway. :-(
What is there to spoil at this point? We alreay know what happens to
his character. What are they going to kill him a second time?
Some people may not have wanted to know that he was making a
reappearance.
Seriously, like NBC wouldn't be promoting the hell out of this for
weeks in advance. If you're a fan of this show, you'll probably have
to be living in a cave not to see promos, news stories, magazine
articles and commercials about this all over the place.
What do you think....that his appearance would be kept a secret until
the time he appears on the screen? Please...
That's correct. PLEASE respect other's wishes ... you are not the only
person on the planet!!
I think I'll also add - without spoiler space - that this will be the
last season of ER. Just in case there is someone on the planet who
doesn't know that already.

It isn't as if it is classified information or that national security is
at stakes. Yee gads, it is a TV show for goodness sake. It is
entertainment. The world will not stop turning if every single detail of
an episode is known before the initial airing date. The sun will not
stop shining. The moon will still wax and wane. Kids will still believe
in Santa Claus. Absolutely nothing will change in this world if spoiler
space is omitted except that a certain amount of rudeness will be
eliminated.

"Netiquette" is not a formal policy. In fact, it is self-defined 100% of
the time. Everyone has their own version except for the sheep who
blindly follow others. I'm not a sheep. I follow my own path. And if you
don't recognize that I am an iconoclast you have not been paying attention.

I suggested that they bring him back a couple years ago and everyone
thought that the producers would never do anything like that since he
"died" on the show.

But, perhaps this also means that they can find a way to bring back Dr.
Romano as well.

Well we know how that's done. Abbey wakes up and the past two years
were all a dream... in other words, they could Dallas it.

For those who haven't noticed, I've trimmed the wrestling groups from
the thread since it was a horrible cross post.

Here is an idea: Abbey goes back in time by borrowing Luca's new
Delorian. She does something to change history, Greene
ends up living and Abbey is the one who dies of a brain tumor.
