With ER's final episode this week, NBC as we have known it is really going
to change. The ludicrous decision to put the hack Leno on every night at 10
pm signifies considerable desperation, and indicates that someone there felt
they can no longer compete with CBS and ABC (I don't include Fox because
they don't have 10 pm programming either).
The strange thing is I've enjoyed the last several episodes of ER more than
I have for quite some time. I'm sure it has to do with the return of the
familiar faces. To take just one example, Noah Wyle is acting rings around
many of the regulars.
So what is NBC going to do in September? Are they going to show L&O SVU, a
truly creepy series of late that sometimes seems too adult for even 10 pm,
at 9 pm? Will those who like Leno (I'm obviously not one of them, a Dave guy
all the way) stick around for Conan (let alone Fallon and the even later
dude)? Will the really sickening reality junk (the obese reality players and
Trump, can't decide who's more repulsive) finally leave the airwaves?
Aside from the fact that most stocks suck these days, I'm sure glad I never
owned GE. Especially if Donaghy ends up running things!
