I was just watching "Jigsaw" when it
occurred to me doesn't the ER have
a separate entrance for emergencies
to come in? Wouldn't that be
better than having emergencies coming
in through a patient waiting area?

We were just in Tampa at a conference. One of our staff had to be rushed to
Tampa General. That's the #1 level-1 trauma hospital in Florida. Brand new
ER department (with free valet parking - smart move to get cars out of the
way) and it only had one entrance as well. Our local does also. Once gurneys
come in they go through another set of doors into the trauma area, waiting
folks turn into the waiting room and can't get into the trauma area.
Security in Tampa was tight, but not overly obvious or uncomfortable.

Is it really that hard to put in a friggin door from the ambulance
bay? One that bypases the waiting room (a watiing room that is
filled with people including kids?)

Depends on the design of the building.

Besides, it's an EMERGENCY room, most of those people waiting should
probably be going to their a GP doctor and not wasting a hospital's
resources and time anyway.

For most facilities this is a security design. I know in our business it is
(animal hospital) Too many entrances makes for wrong doors being used and
extra staff to guide the right people to the right place. In an ER once they
all go in the large set of doors, it's extremely obvious that only hospital
personnel enter the trauma area and others go to the waiting area.
