I was watching the episode with Doug and Carol and the transplant.

Wouldn't the shipping hospital (Doug and Carol) get the name
of the transplant recipient (Carter)? And if you're Doug
or Carol and hear "a doctor in Chicago" wouldn't the next
question be who? After all they know a few of them.

And what in the operating room caused the the need for
the transplant? It seems to me they skipped over that
a bit too fast.

No, it is all anonymous, nobody knows the transplant recipients.

Carter needed the transplant because he lost a kidney after he was
stabbed and his remaining kidney failed after catching something (I
forget what) in Africa.

Maybe...there was nothing in the operating room that caused the need
for the kidney. Benton was making sure the doctor was prepared for
everything that could happen during the transplant.

Chicago has literally thousands of physicians and Doug hasn't lived there in
more than a decade, Carol for almost as long. Why would they think they'd
know the doc? Also, as transplant coordinator, Carol would know all about
patient confidentiality and that she would never be told the name of the
recipient, even if she asked. It's also quite possible that the person
relaying the message didn't know the names either.
