I stole this from another newsgroup, because the author of this post
wrote this more clearer than I ever could... I just thought you might
wanna know what you're up against if you subscribe from any of these
ISPs.

Verizon, Sprint and Time Warner Cable, possible more, are dropping any
newsgroup that does not include the so-called Big 8 from their Usenet
servers:
comp.*
misc.*
news.*
rec.*
sci.*
soc.*
talk.*
humanities.*
The entire alt.* hierarchy is specifically being targetted. This means
that this NG and others like it will have much less traffic than before.
