=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0This is a double episode post. First off, County
has a sorry board. They keep bringing in all these new chiefs. But in
one sense, you can't blame them. Folks either die or leave voluntarily.
=A0 We need Carter to come back, buy the place, and clean house.
=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0My feelings about Cate are mixed. =A0 A take
charge attitude is seldom good for a new leader. =A0 But sometimes it's
necessary. =A0 Sam's situation would point that way.
Yea to Morris taking her to task! I actually like the guy now.
Pratt's death may affect him for a long time. =A0 What if the whole ER
demanded her removal?
=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0We got another motley crew of new interns. =A0 If
there was a spinoff, would anyone be worth keeping? =A0 County sure
attracts people from various places. =A0 Many doctors in my area
interned at the local charity hospital. =A0 Wouldn't most of the interns
be from Chicago?
=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0Someone wrote a list of common sitcom plots. =A0
Why have one for medical shows. How often do they get used on ER? There
was another powder scare. Poor Tony got stuck with the greenhorns. Could
the substance have been tested before losing the clothes? Why not put
them in a drum? If there's no harm, then they can have them back.
=A0=A0=A0=A0Sam goofed up. =A0 What if the guy had been reading a trashy
novel or magazine? We never learned if the GED book was a ruse. Or his
desire for drugs overcame taking the test.
=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0There was also the hint of more revelation. Once
Cate smiled. Maybe we'll hear the song by Mr. Spock. =A0 I could have
done without Dubenko in his shorts. Apparently Neela's visit had an
effect. He came back! =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0
Paul McCrane directed again. I still wanted a Hitchcock moment.
Have him ask one of the newer folks for directions. Warn them that the
place can cost them an arm or leg. Stay away from all helicopters! If
you make one mad, apologize. Who else noticed that Crenshaw looked even
more like Romano's son? I almost didn't recognize him.
Now let's deal with Abby's departure. Who else was glad to see her
go? I hope no one was rooting for her to go off the roof. Talk about
one of ER's most wasted characters! We'll skip the puns.
Other ones so abused include Susan and Chen, after their returns.
What if Abby had left for a few years, then returned? I wouldn't be
disappointed if we never saw her again.
=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0The View should have done a similar thing.
Star's last show could have been Rosie's first. =A0 Cate got to meet
Abby. =A0 Normally, any respect for superdoc's abilities would have
taken much longer. =A0 TNG bungled Wesley Crusher too. =A0 There was all
that trouble of getting him into Starfleet Academy. Then he dropped out
to join the Traveler. When Carter takes over County, he needs
to add a kennel. =A0 Aren't hospitals more careful about keeping pets
out? How did she get it past those doors? Let Frank take care of it. =A0
I was hoping to see Mrs. Garrett bonding with Morris. Please let no one
else leave! Poor Archie may not be able to handle another loss.
=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0How much good did that speech do Sam? =A0 Were
the board ready to
fire her? Or perhaps she'd gotten off easier. Rousing speeches are
another common element. They usually occur in "very special episodes."
Thankfully TPTB of Growing Pains refused such a moment when Mike
encountered drugs. He just left the party.
That bit with the boys was dumb. Wouldn't a male doctor have been
more appropriate? Suppose Archie had gotten them. We never saw the
mother again. Do you think she just left them? That makes the
locksmith from the previous episode seem responsible.
Please don't hook Neela and Dubenko up. It's a wonder that they
didn't tell Abby to leave or shut up. She was there a long time. Be
careful about promises.
Does Haleh stand by to collect any name plates? Some might get
pestered by mail or phone to return them. Who would they belong to?
This moment was moving, but a little unbelievable.
Not everyone on that wall left under good circumstances. At
least one got fired. Others had to resign. I remember Jeanne taking
hers down. Wouldn't those of the deceased have been included in that
box for family? Are there two for Susan and Chen? Did any get reused
by someone with the same last name? I heard something about Rachel
Greene being a student.
That dance with Frank was a nice moment. Ditto for Luka's
cameo. Too bad he didn't say anything. When was it shot? Would he
get more money if he spoke? If only this character had gotten stronger
material earlier. MT's a good actress. But comedy remains her strong
suit.
Both episodes had some good moments. But the shell remains.
Most of us would prefer the chief fuss at the doctors, and not us. Cate
could show compassion for patients. At least we'll get to see Dr.
Greene again.
You still wonder. Why are folks continuing to leave? Sure
contracts run out. But are they just eager to do other things? Or
maybe they're disgusted with the show's direction too. I'd still
prefer seeing all the regulars every week. But in real life, they
wouldn't always work together. May the next show be a good one! That
mantra remains.
Sincerely,
Darren Thornton
